Shall not be infringed…

I have no problem with background checks.  I have no problem within reason for psych checks, but that can and has been abused by the state.  So psych checks need to be done with great care.

Now the Gun grabbers have been planning the things that they have been doing in the last couple of weeks since long before the shootings in Connecticut.  The shooter in Connecticut violated more than a half a dozen laws.  Laws which did nothing to prevent what happened.  Nothing that the Gun Grabbers have proposed will address then next shooting or the shooting after that or the one after that one.

Guns are not going away.  With an excess of 150 million background checks in the NICS system since 1998 there are a lot more firearm owners than the 60 to 90 million that the average Gun Grabbers quote.  Best estimates are around 270 million firearms,  Firearms don’t go bad, don’t expire, they can be damaged beyond operability but it is not the easiest thing to do.

Now the gun grabbers are going to do their best to pass new draconian laws, but this time around gun owners understand the ban and are not going to let that happen.  Period. End. Of. Story.

The gun grabbers are going to try other things and we must stand our ground.  Until they repeal the Second amendment I have two words for the Dianne Feinsteins of the world.

Fuck You

11 screaming harpies

Well I went to the Nations Gun Show in Northern Virginia today.  My mate and I got there at 1:50 and the show was going to open at 3PM.  Well we started walking back around the side of the building and an event organizer told us we needed to get our hand stamped.  So we went off to the front.  My mate signed up for the NRA and his free entry, I paid the 12 bucks for a one day entry.

We then started walking to the end of the paid line to wait for the show to start.  We continued to walk around the building and continued to walk around the back of the building to the back parking lot, where the line then doubled and tripled back on itself.  I swear that line was around a half mile long.  If they had not serpentined the line around the back it would have wrapped the building, and that building is not small.  The line was also well behaved, we all had a chuckle when the black guy behind us noted that this line would probably not be so polite and cordial if we were waiting for section 8 housing vouchers or an Obama phone.

Well when we finally got near the front around 3:15 or so we started to hear the screaming harpies.  It seems that someone armed the harpies with a megaphone and they were screeching about how we don’t need assault weapons, scary magazines and such…  It all went sideways as we got right in front of them and they started screeching about how we were interfering with their 1st amendment rights, Really???  At that point there was a great cackling from the show goers and then jeers about how they need a bull horn to exercise their free speech…   Turns out that they got thrown off the property a bit later as it is private property.  Poor Code Pink.  Don’t go home mad, just go home.  No body cares what you think, please let us know what the tree falling in the woods when no one is around actually sounds like.

Well when we finally got  in it was sort of a free for all with people running around trying to find PMags.  The cheapest PMags at the show were 30 bucks for 20 rounders and then 40 bucks for 30 rounders.  The most expensive PMags were going for 60 bucks and NIB GI mags were going for 30 to 50 bucks.  The worst magazine gouging I saw was for SCAR 17 mags.  For beat a up 20 round FDE (Flat Desert Earth) the dealer wanted ONE HUNDRED and TWENTY bucks  Yep $120 dollars for a beat up magazine I might have picked up for 20 bucks if I was in the market for a SCAR magazine.  I actually laughed in that dealer’s face, once I started laughing he stammered about how dealers were something or other blah blah blah.  I did not hear the rest as I was rolling on the floor.

Once I picked myself off the floor and moved on, I did in fact find a couple of factory H&K USP 12 round .45 magazines that I was trying to find.  At list price they were a screaming bargain as I saw others going for 70 dollars..

I also picked up a nice Spyderco sprint run Clay 3 Damascus which I will have to photo as describing it does not do it justice as my new daily carry knife.

There was narry a stripped AR-15 lower to be found, at least by the time we got there.  I saw a couple of very crappy quality complete lowers selling for north of seven bills.  The one guy walking around with a lower and Magpul ACS stock was actually looking half good at Six Fifty…  Please wait while I slap myself for even thinking that sentence let alone typing it.

Oh and the SCAR 17 at $6900 was hilarious…

It is a sellers market until supply can catch up a bit.

Old Mother Hubbard’s

A friend is looking to buy or build his own AR.  We went to my favorite store to see Mark…  Well usually when I walk in the walls are stocked up two and sometimes 3 AR’s and other EBRs deep going up five rows and probably 5 columns wide.  So at any given time you would be looking at 20 ~ 50 EBRs…  We stopped in on Friday afternoon and holy crap batman.  There was one AR on the wall as well CSG SCHMEISSER STG-44 and a Sig SBR and that was it.  There were some shotguns on the wall too but they don’t count.  Additionally 3/4 of their handguns were gone.  They had two stripped uppers and no lowers of any kind.  And to top it all off there were 10 people in line to get to the counter.

If I was a betting man I would say that all the manufacturers of EBRs have gone to three shifts of production to strike while the iron is hot so to speak…

If the Dumocrats idea was to get guns off the streets, well to say that may have backfired is a huge understatement.

When the Obummer got elected in 2008 I built an AR and it took me 6 months to get a special barrel, but the rest of the parts all showed up inside of a month.  Something tells me this time around it is going to take 6 months just to get a stripped lower.  And even then it is not going to be a cheap endeavor.

And Cerberus cutting its stake in Freedom Group looks to be the dumb move of the year…

Venison, it’s what’s for dinner.

Got my first deer in well over 25 years.  Nice sized Doe,  She made it about 30 yards from where I made the shot with my crossbow.  I would have done it with a bow but my shoulder has been problematic for the last 6 months or so which means no bow.

I know Thunderbolt has been posting about hunting and then the butchering.  Unfortunately for me I don’t have an experienced hunting partner, all my friends drive fast cars for fun.  So that means that I am not doing the butchering part of the hunting experience.

I took my deer to Austin’s Deer Processing.  It cost me a bit more but I do have deer baloney coming home in a couple of days as well as the traditional backstraps and such…

Off to get a freezer for the garage tomorrow, as there is no room for any deer in the house fridge…

12/12/12

Well that is the last one of those dates that I will see in my expected lifetime.  Makes me a little sad,  I really liked seeing those just like I love having Friday 13th birthdays.

Its like watching your car odometer go over 111111 or 222222 etc..

I got to go to the range and introduce a new shooter to the sport.

Shot 111 rounds of .9mm and 222 rounds of .45 it was a good day.  I only packed that many of each caliber on purpose…

Getting my Geek on.

Well I did do some shooting on sunday and my buddy decided that he wants to build his own AR after shooting mine and a friends…  So it looks like he will be hunting for parts now…

But in the mean time I have been delving into my inner geek with a project from work.  I have to build a new machine to run ESXi 5.1 in order to run our corporate UC system in a single box.  I still need a gateway but I have one of those so I am good to go on that front.

The box specs are pretty heavy on the full corporate package but I have found that you don’t have to give it the full beans in order to get it to run.  I mean I am running a lab system in which I only need to support a few active users not tens of thousands of users.  I also won’t need to have 300,000 BHCC (Busy Hour Call Completions) either, so I can get away with a substantially reduced box.

It feels good getting my hands dirty again…
