    A picture is worth a 1000 words…

Ok, so maybe not this picture in particular.  I got zero knitting done today.  Instead I had a fun evening making a new recipe for dinner, hanging out with L for a while at the house, the taking Max over to play with Samba.  J & I watched Dancing with the Stars tonight.  What a funny show!  I got high level amusement from it.

So here is the progress I made in 2 nights of knitting.

    Field testing my design

This is the sweater body design, my current vision is that it will be used one time only and spans the exact number of stitches I will have for the front and back pieces.  Also, the areas that are white will be grey and the purple design will be done in the Green Wensleydale.  I worked on a LOT of options while designing this combination of greek key motifs.  The middle piece is also greek key motifs pivoted in various directions with seperating rows removed.  I really like the effect it gives.

    image

Here’s the sleeve design which will be used once on each sleeve:

I’m looking forward to starting to spin the grey alpaca portion of the yarn.  I am really optimistic about this design and would love to hear what you all think.  This is my first attempt at designing something with a picture or graphic on it so it should be interesting!    cool smile

    Progress was made!

I knit a whole 12 rows on the Ljace Kofte last night which is an entire repeat of the eyelet lace pattern on the sweater.  Whew that took a while!  The sweater is starting to look really nice though now that I have a repeat and a half of the pattern done it’s starting to look like something other than a hem!  I’m loving the feel of this sweater, and I think it’s really pretty.

I’ve been doing a fair bit of design tinkering on this green/grey Greek Key sweater that’s ruminating in my brain.  I’ve come up with something that should work well I think.  I need to spin up that Alpaca now and get working!  smile  I think I have decided to do one band of design on the body and one on each sleeve and to use a green stripe in the cuffs and collar to tie it all in.  I can see it in my head and I think it will be pretty, but we’ll see.  I need to get some opinions on my design, so I’ll be pegging my friends with excel to look at it and tell me what they think.  (You’ve been warned…)

I’m getting more and more excited about goingto see A.  It’s only 2 days away!!!!!!  I’m so looking forward to seeing her new house and where she grew up.  Also it will be nice to just get away.  I’ve been feeling a bit thinned out lately.  Pulled in too many directions, too many distractions, not enough substance.  This is not the end of the world, but it’s usually a sign that I need a vacation.  And getting away to see my friend is just what I need right now in the worst way.  Hmmm, I wonder if A knows where to get a good margarita near her house.  I’m in the mood for a really yummy frozen strawberry margarita.

    Pictures of progress and plans…

Well, I took pictures of the Wensleydale yarn and the alpaca fiber that I think it will go with.  I thinkthe body of the sweater will be grey with the greek key design in the green.  I’ve been working on the greek key design that I want to use and I have quite a few ideas that I am playing with.

    image

I think this combo will be stunning.

I also wanted to show you guys the progress I have made on my Ljace-Kofte.  I did the hem last night and the first body row.  Here it is with the ball of yarn I’m using.

    image

Here’s a closeup of the picot hem after turning.  I really like it.  It’s subtle but very attractive.

Well, that about does it for my blogging tonight.  Time to go take Max over to J’s house to play with Samba!  Much fun will be had.  My pup loves his friend.  cheese

    Have a great night all…

    Weekend Excitement

You may have noticed that my site looks different yet again.  The reason is that many people, including me were having trouble seeing all the words on the last template.  The right hand box was overlapping the text.  Kirk fixed this for me, but decided to change his layout enough that it didn’t really look so much like this one anymore.  This template was the one I had wanted in the beginning, but since Kirk did all the work on the sites with the move etc he got first choice of layout.  I convinced him to let me have this layout!  Yay!  Happy dance!  smile  I love it!  It’s the Expression Engine layout called Blue Essence.

All right, now on to the weekend.  Friday when I got off work I went home, got my Susie wheel and my bin of fiber and went over to LadyV’s house for a spin in.  I had finished spinning all of the Green Wensleydale and was eager to ply it.  And that’s what I did.  It took quite a while as I spun it pretty thin and I had to ply 2 ounces from each bobbin.  This is the most lustrous and wonderful fiber!  It’s my favorite color of everything I have spun to date.  It’s as though it has an inner glow.  Truly beautiful. This morning I was inspired by the fact that it was overcast.  I think that greens look their most vibrant on a cloudy day so I have decided to use the Green Wensleydale with some pretty light grey alpaca that I have.  I’m going to design something to do with both of these together.  Probably a greek key design and hopefully a sweater, but we’ll see.  It might only be a vest.  I think I will try to photograph the green yarn on the alpaca fiber to get a better idea if they will go well together.  LadyV and I had a great time spinning and talking and sipping wonderful wine in her beautiful sun room.  Thanks for having me over LadyV!

While at LadyV’s house I looked through her A Gathering of Lace book.  I saw at least 3 patterns that I want to make with my own handspun and one with some Zephyr that my friend S gave me.  But the pattern that struck me so much that I had to buy the book was Ljace-Kofte.  I decided that I would make this sweater with my Greem yarn.  So Saturday rolled around and found me way too busy to knit, but I did manage to get to my LYS Cloverhill Yarn Shop and bought the book and I also picked up Color in Spinning by Deb Menz.  I looked through it at V’s house and had top have it.  It’s a great book and I hightly recommend it.  Saturday afternoon J & I had appointments for MAC make up applications at the Annapolis Nordstrom.  I love MAC makeup and it makes me stretch my color bravery which is a good thing.  It actually has bled into my knitting and spinning because I have tried color combos with makeup that I would not have done and it has inspired fiber combos.  The green and peachy orange is a perfect example.  I would not have combined these two, but they are so beautiful in makeup together that I was inspired to spin a yarn with each one as a ply.  That’s going to be one of my next projects actually.  And in addition, I was shocked to find that not only can I wear peach make up, it actually looks pretty!  So the green/orange combo might just work!  J & I got back to my house and I made a new recipe that I had never tried.  It’s a pork stir fry kind of thing with tofu, it’s called Ma Po Tofu.  It was fantastic and easy to make so it will be a keeper.  Then J & I went back to her house with Max so that Max & Samba could play for a while.  They had a great time and were very well behaved.  J & I played with make up colors and looks trying to find the perfect combo for the wedding that J is in a few weeks from now.  We liked the foundation/blush/lipstick the MAC girl used on her, but the eyes were well, scary.  Too harsh for J’s features.  We played around and J did a look that was Perfect!  She’ll look great at the wedding, and the Charlotte’s Web shawl I made for her in February looks amazing with her bridesmaid dress!  When I got home from J’s house I was tired, but really jonesing to swatch for Ljace Kofte.  So I made a swatch on 8’s that I was marginally happy with, but needed to go down in needle size.  I went to bed and reolve to re-swatch in the morning.

On Sunday morning I did a swatch on 7’s, blocked it and was not excited.  I did another swatch on 6’s, blocked it and was really happy with it, so I am doing the sweater in 5’s and 6’s.  The sweater has a lovely picot edge/hem, and in order to get the hem done I had to do an invisible cast on which I had never done before.  It took me a while to figure it out and cast on the 208 stitches.  Then I knit and knit and knit.  I got the 22 rows of the hem done, which includes turning the hem and knitting it together with the body.  I managed another row and it was 11:30pm.  Time to call it a night. I was so consumed with my knitting that Kirk made dinner!  Thanks honey!  I’m looking forward to taking a picture of the sweater so far.  I’m one row away from starting the eyelet lace pattern and I’m getting very excited!  I’ll try to reign in my excitement enough to take pictures before I knit for 4 hours and it’s too dark to take pictures.  smile

I hope you all had a great weekend!

What have I been up to?

Hmmm, let’s see, I spent a lot of time working in and around the house over the weekend and this week, but I did take some time out over the last few days to work on some projects.  Here’s a picture of the spinning I’ve done this week:  From bottom to top they are; some of the Ramboulliet from LadyV, 2oz of the Wensleydale from Hatchtown Farm that I got at MDSW, and about an ounce of Cormo that was gotten at Misty Mountain Fiber workshop in Gettysburg.
    image

    I’ve also been knitting!

Remember when I was talking about my longest unfinished object being a pair of socks?  Well, I finally started the second sock a little while back.  Here’s a photo of the sock in progress along with its big brother who’s been waiting a long time to see a mate for this pair.  (About 2.5 years…)
    image

I also started the second Bramble Berry sleeve but I barely have an inch’s worth of knitting so there’s no point in showing you.  What I will show you though is a picture that Kirk took recently of 3 of the 4 animals together.  For all of you who have asked me if the dog gets along with the cats, I think I can prove it with a resounding “Yes”!

I hope you all like the new blog, I’m still getting used to it and how to get things done on here.  If you want to see any of the photos from previous entries, let me know which ones and I will load them up.  But otherwise I’m not going to go through the whole 16 months and repopulate them.  I’m just happy all my text and comments came over!

    New digs!

Hi everybody!  Sorry I had that hiatus there for a day, but as the re-direct said, we changed hosting companies and blog engines.  I’m still kicking the tires on this one.  Not sure about it yet, but it’s interesting so far.  I haven’t figured out how to put my links to everyone in yet but I will soon.  Honest.  I was lost without them!  I was searching around the internet for my favorite people and my favorite sites.  I hadn’t realized how dependant I had become on my links!

I’m just happy to be back!  If you are kind enough to link to my blog, please change your link to this new and impossible to remember link.  Thanks, and check out the top bar of your window.  Everytime you visit there should be a new enlightening/funny/thought provoking quote up there.  It even does it when you comment too!

    cheese

I have lots to tell you guys, but for now I’m going to sign off so Kirk can do some more work on this thing…

    Things may will go down…
I am transitioning the Limpidity.org domain to a new server... During this time things may go offline... That will only be temporary... Things should be back to normal by the end of the weekend if not sooner... and you should be able to comment again... The Management (aka Me) Kirk

    Fun with Trucks.
Yesterday after work I took Kirk to pick up our truck which had been in for service all weekend. It now has a shiny spankin' new dash sans dust! This slightly curtailed my time, and I decided that I didn't feel like fiddling with the Cormo or the Ramboulliet. I find squishy/spongy rovings difficult to spin and I wanted some mindless spinning. So I broke out the 4oz of Wensleydale I got from Hatchtown at the MD S&W Festival. It's a really pretty green with streaks of yellow, red and blue in it. I think it might even have bits of metallic/shiny stuff because it glows with an inner fire. I got probably and ounce and a half spun and would like to finish up this roving by the end of the week. In other news, I think a very special package arrived yesterday. I say I think because I have to pick it up at the post office. I think it has the birthday present for my friend LadyV. (I got something for her birthday that I also got for me, so this package will be dutifully halved as my gift to her. As hard as this may be for me to do, it was my intent to halve it from the start and I can't back out now. That would make me an indian giver especially since she guessed what it is already!)

    Changes in Blogland
Well, my sweetie has been working on this blog problem for a week or so now and we have come to the conclusion that it is time to change web hosting companies. Kirk also wants us to switch blog programs, moving us to something called Expression Engine. I think what this means mostly is that my blog will look REALLY different sometime in the next week, but will hopefully not lose any information. Anyway, the move to the new company and program is in an effort to stop these blood sucking parasites (aka spammers) from shutting us down again. This weekend was a busy one on the homefront. I finally finished all of the Bluberry/BFL yarn! Yay! It took one last bobbin, not the 2 I had feared. In fact it only took about a third of the BFL I had spun up. So I think the rest is going to be a fun continuation of my Navajo plying experiment. I also spun some Cormo and some Ramboulliet. I hope to start whittling through those 4oz of Cormo when I get home.

    Spinning Adventures
Comments are still broken folks. Grrrr... Anyway, last night I got home from work and took Max to the dog park. What fun! He played for an hour and a half! I got home and Vee said to come one over for our planned visit whose purpose was for her to try my Majacraft Susie Pro and for me to try her Ashford Elizabeth II. Well, let's just say that we both loved each other's wheels a LOT! smile Vee might have a Majacraft in her future! smile Yes, I am an evil enabler, why do you ask? So we both spun some roving which is pretty dull looking in roving form but really pretty spun up. I spun a little bit on 2 bobbins and navajo plied them both. Vee spun quite a bit on one bobbin and I navajo plied her spinning as well for her. It was great practice and exactly the purpose I had set aside for this roving, to create a variegated yarn using navajo plying. So it was a success, as I am getting better at it. I have 2 really small navajo plied skeins which are pretty cute. I loved spinning on Vee's wheel. It was a joy to spin on. Since I didn't go over to her house until 7:00 I ended up not getting home until after 10:00! Bedtime was soon upon me. To all of you at, or attending the Estes Park Wool Market this weekend, Have a GREAT time!

    Still not quite there yet
We're still broken in the comments section. And probably will be until we decide if we are changing hosting companies. The fun is palpable. Yesterday I had an eye appointment for my 4 month LASIK appointment. My eye is healing quite well, my tears are 95% normal (which is really good) and my vision is 20/20 with the potential to stabilize out at 20/15 in another couple months! Going from 20/200 vision in both eyes to 20/20 has been astounding. Really astounding. I am still amazed to wake up in the middle of the night and be able to see my clock! That still surprises me. The things we get accustomed to is interesting. Last night I did some Ramboulliet spinning but it takes FOREVER. Quite spongy and neppy and takes a lot of compression, and a lot of time. Spongy wools are not my favorite to spin, but I am getting better at spinning them. I spun for a little while, watched some TV with my pup, talked to my Sister in law for a while, chatted with a friend or 2 and decided sleep would be nice after the previous night's excitement. No accidents last night. smile

    Finally some spinning!
After over a week, I finally got to spend some time with my spinning wheel last night. I was working on some of the Ramboulliet that LadyV gave me. I only took out a small piece to spin, and after I finished it I stopped spinning for the evening. J came by and we went shopping. We were looking for a very specific item and we had a great time shopping and laughing. We eventually found that item and a few others that we had to have, and we made some really good deals in the process. I got 3 pajama tops and pajama 4 bottoms both pants and shorts for when I visit A in a couple weeks. I'm looking forward to that trip. So after I took the tags off my new things and folded and put away the pj's I crawled into bed. At about 11:30pm Kirk & I were awakened by the sound of a car accident. This is not all that uncommon at our house since there is a stoplight at the end of our property. Our first words to each other were "That sounded bad." Kirk got the flashlight & I called 911 on our way out the door to see if any assistance was needed. We're often the first people to respond to these things so we've gotten the drill pretty well. So we looked toward the usual stoplight location and the endof our yard for unwanted "visitors" and there were none! We looked to the left near our neighbor's house and there was one car quite smashed up and crunched into a tree. The passenger back wheel was folded under the car and the front was crumpled, his back bumper was in the middle of the road and we were a bit puzzled since we heard the impact of metal on metal we knew there was another car. FInally, we saw 2 people staggering up out of the back yard of the people who live in a community across the street. Their back yard in on our road and they have a fence and trees etc... This person broke through their fence, leaving one of his wheels and other chunks of the car in the process, snapped a tree, crushed a kiddie pool and came to a stop in the middle of their back yard. A nasty nasty scene. Turns out he had been consuming adult beverages and was going to get a night in jail for his troubles. The cops thanked Kirk for helping with traffic before their arrival and for the flashlight's usage. We gotto bed by 12:15am and were happy that our yard was not the one victimized for once. Surprisingly no one had to go to the hospital which was shocking considering the damage. An exciting night!

    Still Broken
Ok, the Blog is still broken, but when it gets unbroken, I think you will have to register with Type Key to comment. I am sorry about that, but it is a Spam protection effort which was causing you all to be unable to comment due to scripts run by these charming hacker/spammers. Thanks for your patience. I hope you all stick around and register when we are back up and running.
