    How do you spell Abscess?

Yeah, and you thought I was going to ask How do you spell relief… Well, I have a few spellings for that actually. 800mg Motrin and Amox*cillan. Yes, Virginia I do have an abscess in the only tooth in my head with a root canal. So on Tuesday I will be having a re-do of said root canal. I was wondering why I had no desire to or energy for knitting last night. Probably because I felt like the entire right side of my head was throbbing and pulsating. Not fun… When I woke up yesterday I didn’t feel badly at all. A little twinge in my jaw where I had that dreaded root canal in 2004, but really, not too much pain at all. As I went through the day the pain got worse and really didn’t go away. It also spread throughout my entire face. When I went to bed it was bearable but got worse over night. So when I got into the office this morning I called my dentist who could see me at 1:00pm. My co-workers looked at me this morning and started calling me “Puffer.“ They’re sweet like that. But really it’s because my entire jaw area was, you guessed it, puffy and swollen. Waiting for 1:00 to come seemed to take forever, but when I got to the dentist he pretty much looked at me and said I bet it hurts here and here right? Of course he was correct and while he said I had to have an Xray, he also said I bet you have an abscess. Now I’ve been though a lot of dental unpleasantness mostly related to braces and some dental surgeries, but the abscess is a unique form of pain. It’s amazing how such a tiny spot can make your entire face hurt. But really when you think about all the nerves in our faces it’s not that surprising after all I guess.

So I am on antibiotics and will be getting another root canal on Tuesday. Such fun should not be had. Really. But I am somewhat vindicated that it wasn’t in my imagination. Not that I would ever want to imagine such a thing mind you…

Anyway, I hope to do some serious knitting and relaxing this weekend because I feel like someone has been hitting my face with a nasty hammer. Puffer is going to un-puff hopefully by Monday.

    Celtic Dreamin’

I am loving working on Celtic Dreams and I’m very pleased.  I was able to get a lot done while my friend Anne was visiting from St Louis.  We had a very fun long weekend, got to go see the movie Ghost Rider which we enjoyed, went to our favorite LYS where Anne used to teach classes and got to chill out and relax.

In fact, it was at this Yarn Shop, Cloverhill Yarn Shop in fact that I ordered the Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran yarn for the Celtic Dreams sweater.  I simply love the feel of the yarn and I think it really shows the cables to full advantage.  Here are my current photos of the sweater in its current state.

Life is pretty good right now.  Busy but good.  If you are having a short week, I hope it’s not too strenuous, if it’s not a short week for you, may it feel like one.

    Yarn in the Garden State

Thank you all so much for your kind and thoughtful comments about Calvin.  You made me cry, but in a really healthy way.  Now, to talk more about the weekend…

Rebekah noticed the fact that I didn’t say what Kirk asked me to knit for him!  He asked for a hat, and I was happy to oblige him.  I woke up very early on Thursday morning so I could finish the hat before I drovethe 4 hours up to see Deb.  Here’s the photo I made Kirk pose for.  Doesn’t he look happy?  smile

I did a lot of spinning after dinner on Thursday night and a bit on Friday too.  Here’s what I accomplished.
    image

Upon our trip to the local yarn shops in Montclair, I bought things at 2 of them.  Our first stop was Modern Yarn which was a wonderful shop that i really enjoyed.  I decided I wanted to get some yarn that reminded me of Calvin.  Memorial yarn if you will.  Deb helped me pick out the perfect yarn.  I love it and it reminds me of Calvin.  I also got 3 skeins of the Merino/Cashmere sock yarn.  It’s stunningly fabulous stuff.  YUM!

Stix N Stitches was next and I picked up some Regia Silk and Austerman Step, 2 sock yarns I was dying to try.  I’m very pleased with my purchases.

After a wonderful tea, Deb and I went back to her house and watched some knitting and spinning DVD’s and she mentioned to me late on Friday night that I really ought to work on my Celtic Dreams sweater which I started at her house the very first time I met Deb in person.  We had both started our Celtic Dreams sweaters that night and Deb finished her a long long time ago.  It’s gorgeous and I am envious.  In fact, Risa just finished hers too!  So I started work on mine again and got a lot done on the back.  In fact, I am only about 3 rows away from starting the front piece.  Here’s a photo of my current progress.

I knitted on it all day on Saturday and for a while on Sunday when I got home.

In fact, something odd happened on my drive home apparently.  It seems I burst a blood vessel in my left eye.  I was a little shocked at how ummm, prominent it was.  So much so that I had Kirk take a photo for me!  If you’re squeamish, you might not want to look at this photo…

Thanks again for letting me visit with you Deb!  I had a great time with you and Chappy!  (I adore that pup.  He’s so very sweet.)

    Ok, I think that’s everything!

    And then there were 2.

I had a wonderful weekend starting on Thursday morning with a drive North up to New Jersey to visit with Deb & Chappy

It was a wonderful weekend full of fun and laughter, but Thursday was not a good day.  I haven’t talked about it on the blog much, maybe not at all even.  One of our cats, Calvin has been exhibiting the same symptoms as his brother Hobbes did.  This started back in November and escalated much quicker than it did with his brother.  We tried many options and treatments but sadly the result was the same as it was with Hobbes.  Deb was wonderful about it all, and she even let me have a glass of wine with dinner to help calm my very frayed nerves.

Unfortunately, my husband had to take Calvin by himself.  He was put to sleep on Thursday with his daddy holding and petting him.  It broke my heart that my husband had to do this by himself and that I was far from home and unable to grieve.  He was only 10 years old and I loved him dearly.  He was my sweet, scared and gentle boy.  He loved only Kirk & I to the exclusion of all others.  Most of our friends and family had never even seen him before, but he was such a sweet soul.

So, then there were 2, Ivan and Max.

I had a lovely weekend with Deb and Chappy and I’ll talk more about it in a couple of days.  I’m grieving my baby kitty, and knitting has helped.

Give your loved ones a kiss and hug while you can.  You never know when it will be your last opportunity.

    Love to all of you.

    Stomach Flu

Ugh.  I’m fighting a stomach flu right now and hoping it will go away soon so my weekend plans are not thwarted.  But, there has been stuff happening other than sickness.  Honest.  smile

For the second time in nearly 6 years of knitting, my husband asked me to knit something for him!  The first time was a toe sock for his cast when he broke his leg in January 2003.  I was so excited that I immediately took him in to see the handspun collection to pick something out.  He chose some Cormo in a smoky grey/black that was a pain t o spin but is really lovely.  I’m knitting it doubled on size 6 needles in my own pattern of sorts.  I’m quite pleased with it so far.  It feels warm and gushy.

Also, in other news, the second entrelac sock has been started, but the woolee winder spun yarn hasn’t yet been plied.

Ok, that’s about all I can manage right now.  Back to bed for me.  Cheers Dears!
