    Much to Tell

Much has been happening.  In fact, if you want a small taste, check out the hubby’s blog, Fun Turns to Tragedy.  It’s the blog most of you get sent to by rss feeds, and yes, he is a gun nut.  But he’s MY gun nut.  smile  The bathroom remodel is going quite well.  It’s nearing the end stages, and despite being about a week behind schedule, it’s going quite well.  Actually the bathroom is going quite well indeed.  It completely usable now and with the exception of the trim and the closet it is done!  Here are some photos of the tile, the floor and the new vanity.

All of the work was done by my inlaws and my husband.  I did a little bit here and there, mostly making decisions and working with the tile.

I haven’t done much if any spinning or knitting in the last month due to the bathroom rmodel and being so busy because of it.  But that doesn’t mean I don’t have things to show you!

The Princess wrap is complete and off the needles here.  A great backdrop to 3 skeins of yarn that aew special to me.  The middle skein is the first attempt I have ever made at spinning silk from a hanky.  I bought it at the same time as the 50/50 camel/silk and it was the same color way.  The middle skein is the silk single plied with the camel/silk blend single.  I love the results.  I think I like it better than the 2 skeins of camel/silk blend together that flank it.

Here are a few beauty shots of the wrap being blocked and also being worn.

I’ve also been reading.  I read the His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman recently, very good books, and the final Harry Potter.  I have been actively avioding internet and all media coverage until I finished the book.  (At 2am this morning actually…)  I’m very pleased with the ending of the series.  VERY pleased.  And pleasantly surprised that 85 to 90% of my predictions were spot on. The series was a joy to read.  I’m glad I picked them up and followed it to the end.  I choked up 3 times but only cried once.  The beginning of Chapter 27 did me in.  I was so very pleased with 2 of my favorite characters from the book and their behavior throughout.  Luna and Neville.  I know, most people overlook or are annoyed by Luna.  I can’t help it, she is perhaps my absolute favorite character from the series.  And I’ve always loved Neville from day one.  And his Granny is wonderful!  smile  And how fitting that his ccrowning achievement is what it is in this book.  He’s wonderful, what can I say.  The answers to so much, very few questions remain in my mind, mostly about people’s professions in the 19 years later and in their marital state.  I would like Luna to have married Neville, because I think he is sensitive enough to understand and appreciate her.  But part of me thinks Neville doesn’t marry being to damaged by his ordeals.  It was so well crafted and such a wonderful tale.  A joy to read.  Truly a joy.  Thank you J. K. Rowling for such a fun ride.

I’m knitting on 2 socks right now and have only one sleeve left to go on Celtic Dreams.  Knitting will resume here sometime soon, honest…

    Not Dead Yet

I’m not dead yet.  Just busy and swamped, and lazy.  I’ve been doing a lot of spinning, knitting (I finished an object!) and x-boxing. (Is that even a word?)  I’ve nearly come to the conclusion that my Louet is no longer necessary.  I just need to try cotton on the Russo wheel and see how I like it.  I’ve already spun a silk hanky on the Russo wheel and it was a great experience so I have high hopes for the cotton too.  If the cotton goes as well as I expect, I will be parting with the Louet.  I like it well enough, but the purpose I got it for is no longer applicable really since the Russo seems to be able to handle what I needed it for.  The jury is still out but I’m thinking it will go.

I am still just as in love with the Russo as I was the day I got it.  Nearly to the exclusion of all other wheels.  I adore this wheel.  Shocking I know based on my extended love affair with the Susie and the Joy.  I’ve been working through some of my exotic fibers having spun up all of the bison fiber I have, the silk hanky, and the camel tussah blend that matches the silk hanky in colorway.  These are all done and look fantastic.  I even have photos that I will post at another time.  Below is the photo of the camel/silk blend and the silk hanky that I spun.

Lots of family and friend happenings in the last few weeks.  A dear friend’s mom passed away rather suddenly after a 2 week illness, my Great Aunt passed away (My parents are both only children so my aunts and uncles are all greats…)  My dad is having rotator cuff surgery in a couple of weeks, my in-laws are vsiting and will be here for about a month, and we have a family wedding to attend this weekend.  So things have been a bit umm, busy.  A friend is in the hospital and is having emergency surgery too.  Things are just really crazy in my world right now.

But luckily, things are going pretty well for me personally.  I have a ton of things I would love to talk about, but not really much time to do it in.  I’ve acquired a few new items, including a nostepinde made of leopardwood and 2 spindles that make me very very excited.  I’ll document all the new toys, my projects and their status sometime soon.  Honest.  smile

I just wanted to check in though since I know some of you were starting to get concerned.  Thank you by the way to Deb for the wonderful card.  Even Kirk liked it!  It brightened a stressful week.  I’ll be calling you soon I promise.  You know I’m so much more a phone gal than an email gal.  smile
