Fun Turns to Tragedy!!!

The Skinny

I am a gun enthusiast trapped in the People's Republic of Maryland. My political affiliation is Independent, as the Ruling parties are both full of crap, and long ago stopped representing the common man. If the Libertarians weren't such freaks I would probably be one. I am a member of the Nation of Riflemen and damn proud of it. I once took an oath that I would support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. As far as I know I never broke that oath, and will continue to follow it. I am not Politically Correct and will NEVER be Politically Correct. If you need to know more, feel free, Ask.

what am I up too???

Feeling better
Well it turned out to be Bronchitis. Liz took me to the doctors with her on Wednesday and got a prescription for some antibiotics. I am feeling better today. I was miserable most of the day but I had to be at work on the project. I really need to be there next week but I have a BICSI conference that I must attend to keep my RCDD. I will go in on monday, the rest of the week is out though.

Quickie
My parents are making their annual journey back east for some visiting and other stuff (most of which is working on our house). I always enjoy when my parents come since I am very close with them and don't get to see them often since they moved to Scottsdale AZ, the time spent with them is great and we get a lot done in a short time. We have a plumbing project or two planned this year in the basement. I have been wanting to put in a basement bath but had not been able to find an easy way to do it since there is no plumbing down there at all. Well my dad finally found a way to do it using a couple of products from Saniflo. Plumbing always makes for good times. Fortunately Home Depot is close by. Max got a bath... nothing like wet puppy trying to make his humans wet too.

Out in yee old Wood shop
Well I finally got back out in the garage and got the wood shop running again. It took of work just to get the shop back in working order, it is done. Well on saturday I spend 5 hours straight sacrificing nice oak to the sawdust god. I started a project with my father last year but never got around to finishing it. My father and I build one speaker stand as a template and I was to get the rest finished. After all that procrastination I got out there and sawed a lot of wood. I now have 3 of the 4 cabinets glued and almost ready for sanding and the fourth is just waiting for a spare set of clamps. So it is soon to be done. My coworkers on the new project gave me the crud. I have a hacking cough and a fever, joy. Well I did read the online diet book that Humbaba forwarded to me. Nothing really new there but I did like this quote on shirt sizes "one wonders what the numbers would be if T-shirts came in Extra-Extra-Large, Jumbo, Gigantic, Colossal, Planetary, and Incipient Gravitational Collapse sizes as well as the usual S, M, L, and XL." I have gone from 250 to 178 in a few months with a good diet and lots of exercise so I know how it is done. This time around I don't have the time for all the exercise so the weight will have to come off a bit slower. I have already started on portion control which is my weak point I can take being hungry all the time with little effort but don't really want to so this will be my biggest hurdle. No bike tonight as I feel like crap. On the bright side I have not eaten much food today.

Me and my Fatty Liver…
Well it is time that I loose weight. My metabolism said buh' bye when I turned 25. Ever since then I have had a loosing battle with my weight. Now I am topped out at the most that I have ever weighed, and am fairly disgusted with myself. I had some abdominal pains this winter and after all the diagnosis and tests the doctor tells me I have a fatty liver. Me, "um what does that mean". Doctor, "you have a fatty liver". Me, "um what does that mean". Doctor, "you have a fatty liver". Me "um ok... what now?". Doctor "No clue...". Well that was fun. Time to loose some weight since the doctor said that that would probably be a good idea. What ever happened to the doctor that would yell at you about being overweight? Now my doctor does not even mention that it would be a good idea to loose a few pounds. Pfft... So now that my ankle is healed enough that I can ride the stationary bike I am going to get started on doing just that. I did 15 min tonight and I guess that the only way that I am going to keep on doing it is to be hounded by you folks, so keep on my butt about exercising if I don't give updates about it fairly frequently. This just may make me post more frequently also. Tomorrow I will shoot for 2 sessions on the bike. Kirk OUT

Chillin…
Well I am sitting on my thumb in a government office waiting to get written permission to plug in an ethernet cable, my tax dollars at work. On my way to said government office I had to have my laptop open to read the directions from mapquest, so I decided to turn on a Wireless scanner. On my little drive into Baltimore in just twenty eight minutes I found forty eight wireless networks, of which only ten had any sort of encryption talk about hacker heaven. I was worried about getting a connection to get my email, which had the port assignment for aforementioned Ethernet cable. Well worry no more, I just picked a handy wireless network and hopped onto the Internet started my VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection back into my corporate network and bam I got my email. Now If I were really feeling evil I would have changed the default password and SSID of the wireless router that I jumped on since it was still at factory defaults but those days of anarchy are over for me. I was just thankful to get free Internet access for a few min. I guess you could look at it as a public service that those nice people out there with no clue are giving us free Internet access. And since they gave me that free access why would I want to screw up their network, next time that access might not be there. I personally have a wireless network at my house and I have it heavily protected because not everyone out there is harmless. I guess if we had less malicious people out there the world would be a better and more free place, but something tells me that the world will not get much nicer and trustable. Me cynical? You can take that one to the bank. When I run a computer with Intrusion Detection Software on the Internet with no firewall blocking the computer I see on average 250 attacks an hour of which most of which are Windoze script kitties running a popular attack program (Windoze cyber kit 1.1), only about five out of those 250 attacks are subtle and tell me that the person on the other end knows what he/she is doing, or at least has better attack scripts. Ahh the goat rope continues. Now that I finally have permission to connect to the network I am not getting an IP address through DHCP (Dynamic Host Control Protocol, if you were wondering) fun Fun FUN. So now I have to chase that problem down and no one is answering their phones. I love my job (usually). Nothing especially exciting going on these days, which is probably the reason that I have not been posting much.

Dogs and stuff
Well work is killing me. Seventy plus hours last week alone. On Monday night we had our friends Shayla and Dave over (Shayla came for some French lessons) and they brought Harley, now Harley just happens to be an eighty pound Rottweiler puppy that was in Max’s puppy class. harleyandpillow.JPG So you can just imagine the fun that is a fifty pound puppy chasing an eighty pound puppy around the house. It was definitely fun to watch and nothing got destroyed. Max seems to have way too much energy and basically chased and played with Harley for 2 hours straight not really stopping until Harley laid down on the floor and would not get up. Now Max getting this much exercise is always a good thing since he slept through the night and we had to drag him out of bed just to go to outside in the morning and then he curled right back up in bed when he got finished outside in record time. He finally got up at around Noon, ah a dogs life. Well if has finally hit over 70° here for the first time, it will be 90° in two weeks mark my words. I can finally get out in the woodshop and start working on some of the projects that I have been putting off for various reasons and the cold. I have to get a few project finished before my parents get here at the end of the month. The first task was just to clean out the garage. It got a bit disorganized before the hurricane hit the upper east coast last fall and never got cleaned up no ones fault really just got too busy, then too cold.

The adventure continues.
Well the Max adventure continues unabated. He is a holy terror with fangs and a smile. He is a very good natured puppy but has a tendency to chew. Now let me give you a little list of the things he has chewed lately (I am sure that I missed a few and Liz will correct me). He seems to have a penchant for shoes and paper. The little list goes like this… 1. My Postfix manual, the very day I got it (amazon kindly sent me a new one). 2. My Apache manual, he waited a few days for this one must have sensed that shredding 2 books in a day would have been bad. 3. Liz’s shoes, several pair but he still leaves the ones I hate alone. 4. My shoes, he got my favorite outdoor shoes, the little bugger. 5. My glasses, not funny this one but fortunately I had just ordered new ones and only had to wear the ones with 2 left temple pieces for a few days. 6. My ankle brace, got that on the same day as my glasses, just waited for me to leave to get the glasses fixed. 7. The Tivo remote, it is gnawed up but still works, once again saving his life. 8. the owners manual for Liz’s bran new spinning wheel (seems to be the first thing he got). 9. The cat, he gets as good as he gives on that one. 10. Two of my leather coasters. 11. Anything paper that hits the floor 12. And finally today when we got home he had shredded the tags on my brand-new North Face shorts, once again saving his life by not eating the shorts. Now I am sure that this is pretty mild and some people have better lists but this is the reason that we don’t want kids this week. Everything you own that is valuable will be destroyed by the time that they are 18…
