Heh…
Asian religions always did appeal to me a bit more...
| You scored as Buddhist. You are a Buddhist
You basically get lost in the sea of conflicting ideas as your mind hasn't been developed to discern truth from halftruth. You entertain many philosophical ideas that don't apply to your daily life or actually fulfill you in any way. Maybe you didn't have a strong background of faith and morality growing up, which is why you have basically no convictions whatsoever. Follow your heart, it will guide you to the obvious truth and its simplicity will astonish you. Tarot cards, astrology, and witchcraft will be a temptation for you. Be careful.

Range Report…
I planned on giving a complete AR15 update as I just purchased a new upper. Now my friend Ben has been giving me a hard time about my dilatory posting of said range report. So here it is a couple of days late thanks to my server provider (at least I have someone to blame besides myself for once).
I purchased the Upper from Garrison MFG in Ohio. I got a really good price on the upper, once I added a properly headspaced bolt and bolt carrier from Fulton Armory it ended up only a good price. The barrel is a Wilson heavy stainless steel barrel at twenty four inches in length. The barrel shroud is a nice aluminum free float product that did not have the aggressive checkering of some of the other models out there and no rail mounting system, just a smooth fluted look. The fit and finish of the upper is excellent I only had to drill and tap the hole for the Harris bipod mount and we were ready to go put a few rounds down range.
Ron (my neighbor and gun collector) and I got to the range and set up two target stands, one at 50 yards and the other at 100 yards. I let Ron get the first shots off as I spotted for him, he was shooting a nice
Marlin in .45 Colt. It was the first time out for that particular rifle and it has a couple of issues. The first being that the extractor would only function properly if you vigorously open (slam) the action open, otherwise the shell would not eject at all. The second issue it that the rifle was shooting very high. Through the course of the day we were not able to get it down so that it was in the black. It was fun to shoot a lever action and the first time I had the opportunity to do so, too bad we could not get it shooting strait.
I decided to put the first shots with the AR on the 50 yard target. I got a nice sight on the lower 50 yard target and gently squeezed the trigger several times. Nothing Nada Zip. No hits on the paper, I sighted to the left hand side of the target frame and let loose another round and still there was no hit, off to the right side of the target and once again no hit. Bummer I was not on the paper at all on the 50 yard target. On a whim I looked at the 100 yard target and there were a few hits on the target. Humm. I dial the scope down to 3X and take a few shots at the 100 yard target and sure enough I was 3 ~ 4 feet to the left of the target. I dug in the range bag, sure enough Murphy was in my kit bag and my Allen wrenches were at home… Luckily Ron had a set in his truck and I was in business. After a few adjustments of the front and rear scope mounts I had it hitting on the paper. Once I had the fine adjustments done I started to shoot for accuracy.
I hit my first snag just then, a squeeze of the trigger and click. Misfire upon extracting the round from the chamber I see a very small dimple in the primer. It seems my firing pin may be too short but I am not sure, as I had never had that issue with the old upper. I had this issue occur a half dozen times through the rest of the day. Once I did start putting groups on the paper at 100 yards they were pretty nice with most of the groups being able to fit under a half dollar coin, with a few being able to fit under a quarter. Nice groups for cheap Chinese (Norinco) ammo at 55 grains in weight.
With a heavier projectile (which the barrel is rifled for) I hopefully should be able to keep the groups in the sub quarter size at 100 yards. I will have to hunt around for some powder and projectile information as I have only reloaded for pistol at this point. The way to get the best results from shooting any firearm is by loading your own rounds and being meticulous about it, but I have no clue as to where to start with rifles.
All and all I was very pleased with the new upper and had a good day out shooting.
Pics to follow (just the AR, I had the camera at the range but forgot to take it out and use it) just for Rob because I know he loves pics of guns…

MetroSexual…
Errr Not me... Not ever...
RetroSexual fits me to a tee...
The Code:
A Retrosexual man, no matter what the women insists, PAYS FOR THE DATE.
A Retrosexual DEALS with IT, be it a flat tyre, break-in into your home,
or a natural disaster, you DEAL WITH IT.
A Retrosexual not only eats red meat, he often kills it himself. A
Retrosexual doesn't worry about living to be 90. It's not how long you
live, but how well. If you're 90 years old and still smoking cigars and
drinking, I salute you. If you are still having sex, you are a God.
A Retrosexual does not strip naked, get into a sweat lodge, and bang on drums to bond with other guys.
However dressing in kilts, banging on drums around a campfire, and drinking heavily is just fine.
A Retrosexual does not use more hair or skin products than a woman.Women
have several supermarket aisles of stuff. Retrosexuals need deodorant
& shaving gear - that's it!!
A Retrosexual does not dress like a homeboy with baggy pants that look
like he's shot himself, or with a gay chain from pocket to pocket. If
wearing a hat, wear it correctly - not on the side. Blokes
& necklaces (unless you are an Australian fast bowler) are out!
A Retrosexual should know how to properly kill stuff (or people) if need
be. This falls under the "Dealing with IT" portion of The Code.
A Retrosexual watches no TV show with "Queer" in the title.
A Retrosexual does not let neighbours screw up rooms in his house on
national TV.
A Retrosexual should not give up excessive amounts of manliness for
women. Some is inevitable, but major reinvention of yourself will only
lead to you becoming a handbag carrying little puss, & in the long
run, she ain't worth it.
A Retrosexual is allowed to seek professional help for major mental
stress such as drug/alcohol addiction, death of your entire family in a
freak BBQ accident, favourite sports team being moved to a different
city, favorite dog expiring, etc. You are NOT allowed to see a shrink
because Daddy didn't pay you enough attention. Daddy was busy DEALING
WITH IT. When you screwed up, he DEALT with you.
A Retrosexual will have at least one outfit in his wardrobe designed to
conceal himself from prey.
A Retrosexual knows how to tie a windsor knot when wearing a tie. Yes a full windsor knot not one of those wimpy half windsor ones.
A Retrosexual should have at least one good wound he can brag about
getting. This does not include males who have had cosmetic surgery.
A Retrosexual knows how to use a basic set of tools. If you can't hammer
a nail, or drill a straight hole, practice in secret until you can or be
rightfully ridiculed for the wuss you are.
A Retrosexual knows that owning a gun is not a sign that your are
riddled with fear, guns are TOOLS and are often essential to DEAL WITH IT. Plus
it's just plain fun to fire one off in the direction of those people or
things that just need a little "wakin' up".
Crying. There are very few reasons that a Retrosexual may cry, and none
of them have to do with TV commercials, movies, or soap operas. Sports
teams are sometimes a reason to cry, but the preferred method of release
is swearing or throwing the remote control. Some reasons a Retrosexual
can cry include (but are not limited to) death of a loved one, death of
a pet (fish do NOT count as pets in this case), loss of a major body part,
or loss of major body part on your truck.
When a Retrosexual is on a crowded bus and / or a commuter train, & a
pregnant woman, heck, any woman gets on, that retrosexual stands up and
offers his seat to that woman, then looks around at the other so-called
men still in their seats with a disgusted "you rude pricks" look on his
face.
A Retrosexual will have hobbies & habits his wife and mother do not
understand, but that are essential to his manliness, in that they offset
the acceptable manliness decline he suffers when married/engaged or in a
serious healthy relationship - i.e., hunting, boxing, shot putting,
shooting, cigars, car maintenance and drinking beer with the boys.
A Retrosexual knows how to sharpen his own knives & kitchen utensils.
A Retrosexual man can chop down a tree and make it land where he wants.
Wherever it lands is where he bloody well wanted it to land. Except on
his truck --that would happen because of a "force of nature", & then the
Retrosexual man's options are to Cry, or to DEAL with IT, or do both.
A Retrosexual will give up his seat on a bus to not only any women but
any elderly person.
Retrosexual man doesn't need a contract -- a handshake is good enough.
A Retrosexual man doesn't immediately look to sue someone when he does
something stupid and hurts himself. We understand that sometimes in the
process of doing things we get hurt and we just DEAL WITH IT!”
I have seen a few of these lists out there but decided to just blatantly copy the one from
Mr Freemarket. I did however add a few of my own in there.
The more PC and Nanny like this country tries to become the less I like it. It is a good thing that there are many more just like me...

Provider Issues
Well my provider was having a bit of issues with the machine that hosts several sites of mine.
It is a bit annoying but the benefits outweigh the negatives.
What the hell is wrong with some of these
people...
This is kind of crap drives me crazy. Maybe we would be better if all these people went to Canada, they certainly do not deserve the freedom provided by our fore fathers... They certainly should not be dictating the civics curriculum. Once again PC has run amuck.

Stand Tall Stick out that chin.
My friend Ben over at
ReasonableNut posted this little blurb about his local range
"Our range here in town is built on an infested piece of land that has toxic shit sunk into it for the last fifty years. The range will close in a little over a year, as our city elders have decided to let a brand new subdivision be established less than two miles away. I could bitch about that for hours."
To Ben I say stand tall stick out that chin and take the battle to the "city elders". What right do they have to close down the range since it existed before the new subdivision?
The "city elders" tried this crap on the Ft. Meade ranges backed by a big time developer and had their asses handed to them. They built Piney Orchard less than a mile from the Fort Meade ranges. The residents complained of the gun fire noise, they were told the range was a preexisting entity and if they don't like the noise they should not have purchased a house near one. End of story.
Now this did not happen without a lot of grass roots activism on the part of the shooters at Ft. Meade (sadly to my shame I was not one of them). The same stunt was also tried out in Merriotsville at the Associated Gun Clubs of Baltimore ranges. They took a different tact and bought up all the land around the ranges (dues went from $35 a year to $150).
Maryland is one of the 45 states that have range protection laws on the books...
By the way if you go
here you will find out that New Mexico also has such laws in place...

On track
My favorite liberal radio news man (Lopez of Kirk, Mark & Lopez) reported on the fact that it seem that Baltimore is once again on track to having over 300 murders.
I only feel 25% bad about this as 75% of the murders are criminals shooting criminals. The other 25% of the people I actually feel bad about since they live in the war zone and may not be able or want to leave their neighborhood.
The thing that angers me about the whole situation is that there is a solution that has worked well in greatly reducing the amount of firearms related murders in Richmond VA. By enforcing the existing laws and concentrating their efforts in the following four areas Richmond has seen their murder rates plummet.
Now Virginia worked on stiffening these four areas:
A. Possession of Firearm on School Property-Now one convicted of this offense stands subject to a five year mandatory minimum prison sentence with no opportunity for parole. The sentence may not be suspended in whole or in part and, as in the federal system, must be served consecutive to any other sentence. (Virginia Code Section 18.2-308.1)
B. Possession of Firearm by Convicted Felon - Formerly in Virginia, this offense did not carry a mandatory minimum sentence. Now, one convicted of a violent felony faces a mandatory minimum prison sentence of five years in prison with no opportunity for parole. The sentence must be served consecutive to any other sentence and may not be suspended by the court. One convicted of a nonviolent felony faces a two-year mandatory minimum prison sentence which also must be served consecutive to any other sentence and may not be suspended by the court. (Virginia Code Sections 18.2-308.2, 17.1-805 (defining Acts of Violence)).
C. Simultaneous Possession of Guns and Drugs-One who simultaneously possesses a firearm and controlled substance faces a mandatory minimum five year sentence and this sentence is also to be served consecutive to any other sentence and may not be suspended by the court. Note: This provision is a stricter law than its federal counterpart, for in order to be susceptible to a mandatory five year sentence in the federal system the defendant must possess a firearm in connection with the dealing of drugs, not mere possession. (Virginia Code Section 18.2-308.4)
D. Bond Reform-Virginia’s bail statutes were also amended to state, in pertinent part, that when a person is charged with: a) possessing a firearm while simultaneously possessing a controlled substance, b) possession of a firearm on school property or c) possession of a firearm by a convicted felon there is a rebuttable presumption that no conditions of bail can reasonably assure the protection of the community or the appearance of the person at subsequent hearings. The bail statues further provide that the Commonwealth’s Attorney has the right to appeal, up to the Supreme Court of Virginia, any bond set over its objection. (Virginia Code Sections 19.2-119 through 19.2-124)
Richmond then backed up the stiffer laws with a bit of advertising. The had a Bus painted and changed its routs each day so that it covered the city. They put up billboards (15 of them), and the police handed out over 15,000 business cards all stating that if you commit a crime with a gun you are going to spend 5 years in jail on top of whatever time you get for the crime...
It has been a huge success. Other cities are taking note and implementing Exile programs. Baltimore (and the state of MD) needs to do the same.
I will be involved with the grass roots pro gun movement in maryland for the forceable future. I will do me best to ensure that there are no more stupid, wasteful, feel good anti gun laws past in MD. I will be writing to my state representatives to encourage them to making
Project Exile the future for Maryland.
If one person can make a difference...

Mr.Bullet
I am the self proclaimed Bullet Guy for the Ft Meade Rod and Gun club. Why does the club need a Bullet Guy you might ask...
In 2001 Ft. Meade gave the land that it used to use for training and ranges to the DNR. The DNR then declared that the pistol ranges (2 - 8) would be lead free for future shooting but the rifle ranges (1 and 9) would be ok for lead ammo. This put a major crimp in everyones style to say the least. At that point in time there was very limited lead free solutions out there (only one and it was experimental). So needless to say this policy change basically shut down the pistol range for the foreseeable future.
My mission is to find lead free alternative projectiles so that we can start to use the pistol ranges again. There are 3 viable choices for lead free ammo in the year 2004, they are Barnes bullets, Sinter Fire, and West Coast Bullet . They have all chosen a different route to the lead free PC nirvana.
Sinter Fire has chosen to use a copper and tin powder that they then compress to form the bullet. They were the first to come out with a mass produced lead free projectile. The only thing that I see may be a problem is that there are issues with the final crimping process. If crimped to tightly you will fracture the projectile. I am not sure that this will be an issue since the major manufacturers are making ammo with this projectile.
Barnes Bullet is a solid copper round that is not a compressed powder but a cast/milled bullet. The round seems to be primarily a hunting round, it also seems to be very expensive (10 dollars per 20 is exensive for bullets) and out as a solution as far as I am concerned.
Western Coast Bullet is a copper jacketed iron powder core bullet that has all of the advantages of the Sinter Fire projectile in the disintegrating category, plus it is copper jacketed and does not suffer from the crimp issues. Also it is by far the cheapest round of the 3, all of those factors should make it the most popular choice for the club...
I will find out on the first Thursday in December and we should have an order in in early February. I can't wait to get reloading and organize the first bowling pin shoot at the range....
Also for those of the members that do not reload, the bullets can be purchased from commercial loaders in non kit form, ready to send down range....

Ammo BuyCott
Well I did my part for the annual buy ammo day (it has been transformed into a week). I went to the local bass pro shop last night and picked up 500 rounds of .45 ACP and 200 rounds of 9mm. I don't even own a 9mm but at 10 bucks a hundred how can you pass it up (I bought it for Bob's Sig since I shot a bunch of his up when we had his gun on the range a couple of weekends ago).
I am also a reloader and have been doing a lot of research on lead free bullets but did not get it finished in time to buy the stuff for the Buycott...

Cleanup on isle nine.
Well it was time to clean up and add new links.
SWMBO wanted her own link so I added her link down in the link section.
I pulled Fear and Loathing in Iraq much to my disappointment, he got pressure from his chain of command and folded his hand. He posts occasionally but does not seem to do any writing of his own, major bummer. I will be looking for a book once he returns home.
I added Kim under the Gun stuff he is a bit further to the right but as someone who has become politically active myself I enjoy his writing of 2nd amendment issues.
I also added Alphecca under gun stuff. He is a gay gun nut and has a very nice weekly roundup of firearm issues. He also writes quite well, definitely a good read if you are interested in a less right opinion on firearms than you will find at Kim's place
Geek With A .45 is another gun blog that I read on a daily basis and enjoy immensely. Plus he is close to home and does a good job on local political events.
Reasonable Nut may yet get moved up to gun stuff as he seems to blog about gun issues fairly frequently. I like his writing style. He will get better as he figures out more HTML.
Cerebral Misfire is the token lawyer blog. His initial post on lawyers is layman eye opener into the workings of the legal system. A definite daily read.
Black Five is a blog by a retired military officer. Always a good read, fairly military in focus with good stories from the front.
Belmont Club is a good read, well thought out and well balanced currently doing exemplary coverage on the current push in Iraq.
Smallest Minority is another blog that will probably get moved up to the gun section but he covers a lot of individual right issues and is usually an insightful writer.
I would ad Rob but he seems not to have a site. He sure does like to post on mine so I would think he has his own, but I could be wrong...

Ashcroft is out of here..
Ashcroft resigned... That is excellent news, anyone who is such a prude that he has to put a curtain around the statue of Justice is just scary. I have never really agreed with having Ashcroft as attorney general and now we will see if Bush can find someone a bit more moderate (that is yet to be seen).

My only thoughts on the election
This seems to be the embodiment of the democratic party of late.

This quote from
Mark Steyn pretty much sums up the attitude that will kill the democratic party.
"a placard prominently displayed by a fetching young lad at the post-election anti-Bush rally in San Francisco cut to the chase: "F--- MIDDLE AMERICA."
Almost right, man. It would be more accurate to say that "MIDDLE AMERICA" has "F---ed" you, and it will continue to do so every two years as long as Democrats insist that anyone who disagrees with them is, ipso facto, a simpleton -- or "Neanderthal," as Teresa Heinz Kerry described those unimpressed by her husband's foreign policy. In my time, I've known dukes, marquesses, earls, viscounts and other members of Britain's House of Lords and none of them had the contempt for the masses one routinely hears from America's coastal elites. And, in fairness to those ermined aristocrats, they could afford Dem-style contempt: A seat in the House of Lords is for life; a Senate seat in South Dakota isn't."
I have a friend in NYC who insinuated that people who vote republican are stupid. That is ok with me it is a free country, and we still have a first amendment. If you want to alienate more than half the country with name calling and vitriolic statements, be prepared in 06 for the republicans to have a super majority in the house and senate.
I do not think that having the republicans with a super majority is a good thing by the way. We need a third party, which by the way is not in the interest of the Dems or the Repubs so it won't happen any time soon.
Yes I am a moderate with a conservative leaning I am not hiding that fact.
My top ten list (not all things just the major high points) of the things that I believe in:
1) The right to keep and bear arms.
2) The woman's right to choose.
3) Equal rights under the law for Gays.
4) The Constitution and Bill of Rights.
5) A strong and capable military.
6) A fiscally responsible government.
7) Smaller Government.
8) Taxes.
9) Space Program.
10) Pure scientific research.
Here is
a glimpse of the moral hight ground that the left embodies. They sure know how to make friends and influence people.
(note to Rob. I know you won't agree with any of this but that is cool, we do after all live in America, but if you feel like posting off topic just don't expect a response. However a thoughtful on topic comment will always garner a response.)

Vote is cast.
I got in and out of my polling place in 15 minutes. I was kind of amused by the three people in front of me who were pissed at both parties because neither will put forth a moderate candidate. I whole heatedly agree with them, our choices suck.
My only hope is that who ever wins this election wins in the big toss up states by several percentage points because I do not want to see our political process taken away from the people and handed to the lawyers.

Whoo Hooo Side Bet
I have a friend in Maine that I play Xbox Live with. We also have a lively debate on IM about politics from time to time. we both agree that there should be a Moderate 3rd party that represents all of the sane people in the middle of this hissy fit that is going on right now.
So the bet is over an Xbox game.
If Kerry wins Thadius gets Halo2 sent to him by Amazon from me.
If Bush wins I get Halo2 sent to me by Amazon from him.
I made the joke that we might have to wait till Feb to collect... On second hand that may not be a joke...
Sweet.
